OSI Food Solutions, founded in 1909, and one of the world’s largest food processing companies, is now operating more than 65 facilities in 17 countries, with over 20,000 employees. Founded by German immigrant, Otto Kolschowsky it was originally known as Otto’s Meat Market. In 1928, the company changed its name to Otto & Sons, and in 1975, it was known as OSI Industries, LLC. The company then branched out internationally, which is when it became known as OSI Food Solutions.
Although it started out as a humble market, the company’s history began to really grow after McDonald’s chose it as its firs meat supplier in the 1950’s. Today, the company’s major products include: meat patties, hot dogs, sausages, chicken items, frozen entrees, fish products, and vegetable dishes. But now, with its main office in Aurora, Illinois, it has branch offices in Germany and China, and has facilities in South America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region.
OSI Food Solutions is working to become the leading food provider in North America, Europe, and other parts of the world. Recently, OSI Food Solutions has doubled its chicken processing in Toledo, Spain. With an investment of 17 Euros, they went from processing 12,000 tons to 24,000 tons. The company has also managed to acquire other food processing plants, including Baho Food, which is a Dutch manufacturer of deli meats and convenience foods, a Chicago food processing facility formerly known as Tyson Food plant, Acquisition of Flagship Europe, and a new processing facility in the Philippines. President and COO of OSI Food Solutions said that the company wants to continue to grow consistently and plans to continue expanding its product lines.
